Valentín de Zubiaurre
Valentín de Zubiaurre Aguirrezábal (Madrid, August 22, 1879 - Madrid, January 24, 1963) was a Spanish painter. He was born deaf-mute, a condition also suffered by his brother Ramón de Zubiaurre, also a painter and three years his junior. Both were sons of the composer Valentín de Zubiaurre Urionabarrenechea.
Originally from the Biscay town of Garay, the family lived in Madrid, where the father had taken up a post as music master at the chapel of the Royal Palace. Valentín began his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in 1896, under teachers such as Muñoz Degrain and Moreno Carbonero. Between 1905 and 1906 he traveled to Paris with his brother and mother, also making several trips through Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany.
